The history of the American Colony Hotel goes back to the late 19th century, when Horatio and
Anna Spafford, Christian family from Chicago came to Jerusalem. They wanted to live as the old Christian did, in a simple life of community sharing, concentrated in charity work. The rumors of their fruitful work in the local community grew beyond the borders of Jerusalem and soon they led a group of more than 120 followers assisting them in their work.
